About us
We are a charity based in Bristol that exists to work with refugees, asylum seekers and other vulnerable migrants to help them from exclusion to belonging. We have a vision for a world where refugees and asylum seekers can seek sanctuary and justice, can make full use of their talents and abilities, feel valued for their contributions, and build worthwhile lives. We want to help refugees, asylum seekers and those with insecure immigration from exclusion to belonging. Our mission is to serve the disadvantaged and marginalised, focusing on asylum seekers, refugees and those with insecure immigration status, primarily in the wider Bristol area, by: enhancing their social inclusion and well-being, supporting those in poverty, and raising awareness of their needs and experiences among the wider community. We work with people regardless of race, disability, sex, age, religious belief or sexual orientation. We create a welcoming community where we support people on their way of securing 'leave to remain' and enhance social inclusion and well-being.

We had the pleasure of hosting Heart of BS13 at Borderlands this week to collaborate on a short film showcasing community food projects. Heart of BS13 prepares and freezes over 100 nutritious meals per week and provides them for free to those in need. During their visit, we welcomed the film crew into our Welcome Centre, where one of our talented members cooked up a delicious traditional Eritrean meal enjoyed by all. We're excited for the release of the film. Stay tuned for updates! #CommunityCollaboration #HeartofBS13 #BorderlandsImpact

We had an amazing turnout for our Welcome Centre volunteer training session on Monday, where we warmly welcomed 16 new volunteers to our dedicated team! Out of those 16, 14 who joined are Borderlands members, reflecting our commitment to providing opportunities and training for asylum seekers and refugees in our community. At Borderlands, we firmly believe in empowering our members to play an active role in our mission and through comprehensive training, we aim to equip our volunteers with the knowledge and tools they need to make a meaningful impact in our community. Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed! #RefugeesWelcome #SafePassage #Asylum #Refugee #Wellbeing #BorderlandsCommunity #VolunteerTraining

Had a great day yesterday with the Bristol Refugee and Asylum Seeker Partnership (#BRASP) facilitating their all partner meeting, facilitating the development of their Theory of Change and strategic planning process. Joanna Knight 🧡 has been working with BRASP since January, facilitating a theory of change process (and product) to: - Galvanise partners around an agreed vision and change areas. - Provide a foundation to develop their strategic plan for the next 3 years and commitments to different change areas. - Provide a foundation to review their governance framework. - Provide a framework for monitoring, evaluating, accountability and learning for the partnership. Let us know if you would like to chat about developing or reviewing your theory of change! Great working with Aid Box Community, ACH Refugee Integration Services Provider, Borderlands, Bridges for Communities, Bristol Refugee Rights, Bristol City of Sanctuary UK, Bristol Hospitality Network, Bristol Refugee Festival, Bristol Reporting Solidarity, Project MAMA, Refugee Women of Bristol, British Red Cross, The Haven, Trauma Foundation South West, and of course Phoebe Westwood! #learningbettertogether #strategisetogether #theoryofchange

In times of uncertainty, it's crucial to prioritise self-care and spread kindness to those around us. Even amidst challenges, we hold the power to brighten our spirits and nurture our well-being. Through creative activities and the arts we can bring light to our minds and bodies, offering moments of solace and rejuvenation. At Borderlands, we offer a safe space for asylum seekers and refugees to make connections and build community. Our aim is to reduce isolation and turn exclusion in to belonging. Let’s embrace the therapeutic benefits of self-expression and extend compassion to ourselves and others as we navigate through these difficult times. Together, we will cultivate resilience and find moments of peace amidst the chaos. #RefugeesWelcome #SafePassage #Asylum #Refugee #Wellbeing #Arts #BorderlandsCommunity

Last week, the joy of Eid filled the air at The Trinity Centre as we celebrated together! This year's event was especially memorable, with traditional dances, delicious cuisine, art and crafts, and an atmosphere filled with warmth and happiness. A huge thank you to all those who attended and to our lovely partner organisations; Refugee Women of Bristol, Bristol Refugee Rights, Project MAMA, Aid Box Community and Bristol Refugee Festival who helped make this wonderful day possible! #EidCelebration #CommunityUnity

Cruel policies will not deter people from seeking safety. The Rwanda Bill disregards international law, imperils the fundamental human right to asylum, and poses grave risks to torture survivors, families, children, and vulnerable individuals. It reminds us of the importance of Borderlands, our partner organisations and all the amazing individuals working within the sector. We will continue to stand united in solidarity and advocate for our members for positive change. #SafePassage #RefugeesWelcome #StopRwanda

Thank you, Burges Salmon LLP, for supporting Borderlands, among many other amazing organisations, your support has made a huge impact on the families we support here at Borderlands!
Recent years have seen us campaigning so No Child Goes Hungry, our charitable theme since 2019. From pro-bono advice, volunteering and fundraising activities, to the tune of £160,000, we've supported many charities and community groups across Bristol and Edinburgh who are all working in different ways to tackle food justice, whether that is meeting urgent immediate needs of providing healthy and culturally appropriate food or working on food education and other projects that are intended to have a longer term impact. As we prepare to choose and announce our new charitable theme, we wanted to reflect on the inspiring projects we’ve supported and the fantastic ways all of our people have rallied behind our charitable aims, their continued enthusiasm and engagement mean that collectively we’re delivering greater social impact and making a real difference in our communities. 🏃♂️🏃♀️ It's just one month until Abbe and Fran lace up their running shoes for the Bristol half marathon in support of Borderlands! 🏃♂️🏃♀️ They've been putting in the miles, training hard to run the equivalent distance from Bristol to Bath! Join us in cheering them on and supporting their mission to raise £1000 for our Wellbeing Wednesday activities. These sessions are more than just exercise; they're vital for the mental health and well-being of our members. Research shows that regular physical activity, like running, can have a profound positive impact on mental health. For asylum seekers and refugees facing immense challenges, these activities offer relaxation, stress relief, and emotional connection. Help Abbe and Fran make a difference by donating today! https://lnkd.in/eXVyK-nv #BristolHalfMarathon #WellbeingWednesday #Borderlands #SupportOurRunners
